Situated in the heart of the Armorica and Iroise Natural Parks , the house is a ten-minute walk from Stiff harbour and 200 meters from the Vauban lighthouse. Enthousiastically restored and tenaciously ecological, this typical Ouessant fisherman’s house is set in a landscape of broom, gorse, heather and ferns. In harmony with the calm and silence of the island, it is a place where everyone feels at home
ON THE GROUND FLOOR :
Large 40 m2 living/dining room with fireplace, clay-tile floor.
Kitchen (16 m2) with a roomy dining area and magnificent view of M0lène Island, oven, gas range, microwave, all utensils and dishwasher
Bathroom : sink, toilet and shower
Laundry : washer, dryer, clothesline
One staircase leads to two bedrooms. Each has its own bathroom (with sink, shower and toilet) and two 80 cm beds which together can make a double bed.
A second staircase leads exclusively to a luminous master bedroom looking out on the Molène archipelligo and the Vauban lighthouse. The two single beds can be joined to make a double.
All three bedrooms are equipped with an automatic field off-switch. No electromagnetic field is present once the lights are turned off.
A garden of about 800 m2 is enclosed by a dry-stone wall.
Our restoration has focused on using the most wholesome and durable materials possible: lime, hemp, clay. The roof is insulated with 30 cm of hemp fiber, paints are made with lime, the clay comes from wood-fired kilns in the Vendée region and the wooden materials are from French forests. Up to 10,000 liters of rainwater is caught, filtered and stored in a cistern.
In November 2012 we installed solar panels to power a water heater and the underfloor heating circuit. Wastewater is treated by phyto-purification (see Reeb ). The overall project will be complete when the planned « Pigot » windmill is installed.
Have a lovely time!
